02 Sep There’s Still Time to Enter the Wildlife Garden Awards
If you’ve been meaning to enter the Wildlife Garden Awards but just haven’t got around to it yet, there’s good news…
There’s still time!
We’ve extended the deadline until 30 September, giving even more people the opportunity to celebrate the positive steps they’re taking to support local wildlife. Whether you’ve transformed your garden over many years or simply added a few wildlife-friendly features this summer, we’d love to hear from you.
Join Hundreds of Wildlife Champions
Every year, people from across the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead take part in the Wildlife Garden Awards. From tiny balconies and courtyard gardens to allotments, schools, businesses and community spaces, entrants are proving that every outdoor space can play a part in helping nature recover. Together, they’re creating a growing network of habitats that provide food, shelter and water for birds, bees, butterflies, hedgehogs and countless other species. This year, we’d love even more people to join them.
It’s Completely Free
One of the best things about the Wildlife Garden Awards is that they’re completely free to enter. There are no entry fees, no hidden costs and no complicated judging process. Simply complete the online entry form, tick the wildlife-friendly features you’ve already got and submit your application. It only takes a few minutes.
It’s Not a Competition
This is one of the biggest misconceptions we hear. The Wildlife Garden Awards aren’t about choosing the “best” garden or comparing one person’s efforts with another’s. Instead, they’re about recognising and celebrating everyone who is making space for wildlife. Whether you’ve planted a pot of lavender for bees, installed a bird bath or created a pond, every action helps. Every garden is different, and every contribution matters.
Everyone Who Qualifies Receives an Award
If your outdoor space meets the criteria, you’ll receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold Wildlife Garden Award, along with a certificate recognising your achievement. There are no winners and losers—just people who are helping wildlife and inspiring others to do the same. Many entrants are surprised to discover they already have enough wildlife-friendly features to qualify.
You Might Already Be Award-Worthy
Take a quick look around your outdoor space. Do you have:
- 🌼 Pollinator-friendly flowers?
- 🐦 A bird feeder?
- 💧 A bird bath?
- 🌿 A compost heap?
- 🌳 A mature tree?
- 🪵 A log pile?
- ♻️ Peat-free compost?
- 🚫 No pesticides?
If so, you may already have everything you need to qualify for a Wildlife Garden Award.
Help Nature—and Inspire Others
By entering the Awards, you’re not only recognising your own efforts, you’re helping to inspire neighbours, friends and the wider community to make space for wildlife too. Every new wildlife-friendly garden strengthens the network of habitats across the Royal Borough, helping nature thrive now and for generations to come.
The countdown is on, but there’s still plenty of time to take part. Enter Before 30 September
The Wildlife Garden Awards are free to enter, open to gardens, balconies, allotments, schools, businesses and community spaces, and everyone who qualifies receives a certificate celebrating their contribution to local wildlife.
