Over 65 acres of gardens now wildlife friendly!

The Wildlife Gardens Awards encourage everyone to put wildlife at the heart of their outdoor space, whether they have a garden, allotment, balcony or shared space at home or work. Last year the total outdoor space entered for the awards covered an amazing 65 acres – that’s approximately five times the area of Windsor Castle or twice the area of Braywick Nature Reserve in Maidenhead.

In 2023 over 190 people entered the awards, demonstrating their commitment to wildlife-friendly gardening which brings joy to people of all ages. Sathish, a 2023 Silver Award winner, told us:

“My 10 year old son is a wild animal fan and we are happy to see wildlife recognise our garden and visit frequently during every season”.

Entering the awards is also important because it contributes to our understanding of how local spaces are managed and supports the local Biodiversity Action Plan, which aims to have 30% of our Borough managed for nature by 2030. Wildlife Gardens Awards entrants currently contribute a fantastic 65 acres to this “30 by 30” target, helping to improve local habitats and link-up green corridors for wildlife across our Borough.

The Wildlife Gardens Awards are led by volunteers from the Wild groups across the area and we welcome volunteers to help organise the awards and associated events. To find out more or get involved email us at [email protected]
